Purpose and History

The Sigma Phi Sigma Fraternity Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Sigma Phi Sigma Alumni Association Board on April 14, 1997. The Scholarship is a tribute in memory of all fallen brothers. The original goal of $10,000 ( the sum needed to endow the scholarship) was reached 07/01/01.

Scholarship awards will be funded from 80% of the interest income generated annually. The remaining 20% interest income is added back to the principal balance. This guarantees a growing scholarship fund.

The Sigma Phi Sigma Scholarship Endowment Fund reached it's goal of $10,000 on July 1st, 2001. The first recipient received their award for the scholarship in the Fall of 2002 at the 40th year reunion. The 2003 - 2004 scholarship recipient was Kipper Connell.

The committee to award the scholarship consists of:

  • Dan Meyer - Chair
  • Dick Spencer

Recipients:

  • 2002-2003 - Manuel Yanas

  • 2004-2005 - Paul Austad & Derek Schultz

  • 2006-2007 - Matt Stites
